A research blog about documentary-making, blogging, and media convergence. And of course, research.

just the beginning

I have submitted my Honours research project so now it’s out of my hands. I can’t really describe what I’m feeling only that as with this blog and my research, there is no sense of closure. Everything is still open-ended. Waiting for results can be agonizing and so I’ve decided that I’m going to keep it off my mind. It’s been quite a journey and I’ve learned a great deal and that’s what I believe is the most important thing.

It is the start of a new chapter and I think I’m ready to fly.

to the printers

My exegesis is done and is now at the printers where it will begin its new life. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone and I’m starting to feel anxious and excited about what is to come.

a picture speaks with the words

I’m beginning to realize the effectiveness of images in relation to words. As I write posts for Our Father, I sometimes feel the need to accompany entries with an image to further establish meaning. Indeed, a picture speaks a thousand words, but in a blog they also have potential in enhancing words without overpowering them. Blogs as I have researched, are an innately textual medium, but with the ability now to upload image and video, the meaning of text can be established to a greater extent.

I’ve also come to believe that using an image in a post is a good way to draw readers in, perhaps acting as an advertising mechanism for the blog entry.

I have to say that I’m really enjoying the practice of searching for photos on flickr that work with the story I’m trying to tell. And I am starting to see how each post is its own little story.
